BANGLA
BANDH
By a Staff Reporter
COOCH
BEHAR, Aug. 11 :
Bangla Bandh was observed yesterday on the 11th August at Cooch Behar and its
adjoining areas along with the whole of West Bengal. Twelve left parties viz.
CPI(M), RSP, FB etc. gave the Bandh call against the Central Government to
protest against the high rise of prices of essential commodities. All schools,
colleges and offices within the town and around were closed. There was,
however, thin attendance in the Central Government offices. Though no vehicular
traffic was seen on the roads, a few cars carrying the party flags were found
moving in the area. Barring a few stray incidents the Bandh was peaceful. The
parties sponsoring the Bandh congratulated the people as they made it
successful. But the parties opposing it claimed the Bandh as a total failure.
